This report will explain how supervisors and staff in the case management department can use strategic planning to improve productivity and the quality of service to clientsProblem Within A Specific DepartmentPoor planning within a department will always drag behind the quality of service offered to clients in any organization(Watson, 2009) . Strategic planning being analytic in nature, it involves finding ways to success and correlating them for best results. It involves both formulation and implementation of activities necessary for going forward. In the case management department, strategic planning is so crucial as it can be observed as a pattern of activities taking place as the department adapts to its environment. The case managers are tasked with determining strategy which can be planned, and this will help how they will be operating and serving and providing expert care for patients' specific health care needs. According to Michael Porter in 1980, In the formulation of an effective strategic plan, it is important to take into consideration the strengths and weakness of the department; personal values of the case managers; the opportunities and threats facing the case department and finally the patients' expectations from the department.Specific and realistic change to address the issueIn the implementation of strategic planning, it also needs strategic thinking. The case managers will have to coordinate with all staffs and develop ways of distributing the resources available for the better of the department. Resources of the Department include labor force from the staffs, and this will require the care managers to agree with the staff on the distribution of workforce throughout the department to meet the expectations of the patients. Since strategic planning involves decision-making, it is also necessary for the senior staff to involve the other staff in making decisions involving changes to be made during the implementation of the strategic planning: and this is to make sure that everyone involved is in the same boat and develop a common understanding in respect to the competitive environment and what the departments response to the environment that is being created(Supriyanto, 2015) .Change aligning with mission, vision, and valuesMaking changes in strategic planning in the activities in the department, will aid in emphasizing Centene's mission statement of improving the health of the community through health insurance solutions for the under-insured and uninsured and through specialty services f or the communities that we serve. By implementing strategic planning which involves the proper distribution of resources throughout the department and defining the direction of activities, it will greatly improve the service provided, as the patients will be served according to their expectations as strategic planning implementation involves including in the plan what the patients expected. Centenes values include managing their economic, social and environmental impacts as well as relationships in the workplace and the community can be fostered through the implementation of the strategic plan in respect patients' need and the involvement of other staffs which make them feel confident as they were part of the decision making. Centenes vision statement aims at delivering accessible and culturally sensitive high-quality health care services to their members. By resource distribution throughout the department and considering the needs of the patients will greatly impact on high-quality services.Strategy to implementing the changeA strategic plan is of is of no help to an organization if not put in place. Implementation is an essential part of a strategic planning process. In the implementation process, the first step is to evaluate the strategic plan and making sure it is well understood of what the plan entails(Supriyanto, 2015).The main issue addressed is strategic planning, all members involved in the implementation and execution must be trained and get well conversant about the result and why bit is important to the department. Selection of a team to help in the implementation of the strategic plan is another vital step to be taken into consideration. Schedule meetings with the selected team to discuss the progress of the report and changes that need to be regularly made.
